The Education Preparation Provider (EPP) at Auburn University is currently accredited through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

Programs at Auburn University are approved by the Alabama State Board of Education. A comprehensive list of programs are provided that lead to:

  • Class B certification (Undergraduate programs)
  • Class A certification (Master’s level programs)
  • Class AA certification (Education Specialists programs)
Programs that have received national recognition include:
  • English Language Arts: National Council for the Teachers of English (Class B, Class A-Alternative)
  • Music Education: National Association for Schools of Music (Class B, Class A, Class AA)
  • School Counselor: Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (Class A)

CAEP Eight Annual Measures

All Nationally Accredited programs hold a designation of excellence that is maintained by engaging in continuous improvement. The College of Education at Auburn University shares this honor with other accredited programs throughout the nation. As part of our ongoing evaluation of programs, the college is required to report and display eight annual reporting measures as documented in CAEP Component 5.4 | A.5.4.

The EPP currently collects data on the Advanced Professional Work Sample for program completers in the undergraduate program to determine the graduate’s impact on student learning. This has been completed through a case study approach using a convenience sample of undergraduate completers who enroll in the graduate program following the completion of the Class B certification requirements. The case study data has demonstrated an overall positive impact our candidates have on P-12 student learning. Additional data collection in the form of observations was scheduled for Fall 2020, but due to COVID, we had to postpone this until Fall 2021. This evidence is further validated through meetings with employers who anecdotally discuss the desire to hire more Auburn University graduates from the initial preparation programs.

Similar to impact on P-12 learning data, the Advanced Professional Work Sample provides data on the teaching effectiveness of our graduates. This evaluation has been completed through a case study approach using a convenience sample of undergraduate completers who enroll in the graduate program following the completion of the Class B certification requirements. The case study data has demonstrated an overall positive indicator of our students’ teaching effectiveness. This evidence is further validated through meetings with employers who anecdotally discuss the desire to hire more Auburn University graduates from the initial preparation programs.

The satisfaction of employers and program completers is measured by the Alabama First Year Teachers Survey, an instrument developed by the Alabama Chapter of AACTE. Our chapter of 27 EPPs began meeting in July 2015 to discuss and develop methods of meeting state, CAEP, and continuous improvement requirements. Through the work of these various institutions two surveys were developed that assess the satisfaction of employers as well as the satisfaction of our program completers.

Shortly following the completion of the survey instrument, the ALSDE incorporated and administered the survey into the EPP Program Report Card. This data has been collected by the ALSDE ever since its creation.

The College of Education boasts a high level of retention at Auburn University as well as a high completion rate for candidates who are admitted to the EPP’s programs. The data chart demonstrates the undergraduate retention data for candidates who started in the College of Education and completed a program at Auburn University.

The College of Education at Auburn University completes a Title II report every year. The Title II report is divided into two portions. The first portion, completed each fall term, requires EPPs to enter information regarding the completers and admittance of candidates into specialty area programs that are offered at the institution.

The second portion, completed each spring term, requires the EPPs to expand upon the information gathered from program completers and those accepted for unconditional admissions. Reports are provided from the ETS platform and are included on this webpage. Title II reports are based on an annual cycle that spans September 1 through August 31 of the prior year.

The College of Education at Auburn University receives access to a First Destination Survey following candidates’ completion of an undergraduate educator preparation program. This survey is administered 6-months after candidates complete the programs. From this data, we have the ability to determine response rate, employment rate, and rate of graduates pursuing further education (e.g., post-baccalaureate or higher program). The most recent data reported to our college is from Spring 2019.

The United States Department of Education reported in September of 2020 that the most recent cohort default rate is 2.9. This data represents FY 2017.
