Serving Beyond the Classroom

The work of Auburn College of Education faculty members Margie Taylor, Sarah Flint and Lindsay Portela does not stop when class ends. Whether training health care professionals to prevent burnout, supporting communities in crisis, equipping first responders with mental wellness resources or mentoring future counselors through service learning opportunities, the three counselor educators are extending Auburn's land-grant mission far beyond campus while preparing the next generation of counseling professionals to do the same.

Mental health message

For many people, conversations about mental health can feel intimidating, uncomfortable or difficult to begin. Alexis Dowdell, a doctoral student in Auburn University's College of Education, hopes to change that through a new educational video series designed to make mental health information more accessible, relatable and easier to understand for individuals and families across the community.
