Opelika Grows

Opelika Grows, or O Grows, promotes gardening and related programming to address the issues of food security and localized food systems while providing fresh food for the Opelika, Alabama community. It began in 2012 as a solitary effort at one school to encourage outdoor education and was comprised of a school garden and weekly lessons with second graders. Since then, O Grows has indeed grown, into a community-wide partnership, which at its heart is an effort to localize the food systems of Opelika. O Grows now includes gardens and experiential learning lessons for students at six schools, a community garden and greenhouse, and a farmers market.

Community Garden & Farmer's Market

Opelika's local farmers market, located across the street from the Cultural Arts Center on Glenn Street near the community garden, is a Tuesday tradition in Opelika throughout the summer. Visitors are welcome to walk around the square each Tuesday to find fresh, local produce ranging from heirloom tomatoes to collard greens. Guests may even find goodies like fresh bread, homemade ice cream, or local honey as well.

  • Farmers Market every Tuesday, 3-6 p.m.

  • Saturdays at the Garden every Saturday, 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
