Short Bio

Jeff Reese, PhD, is a Professor and the Department Head in the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Counseling at Auburn University. He is also a licensed psychologist. His research interests are psychotherapy process/outcome, psychotherapy supervision and training, telepsychology, and sport psychology. His current research is focused on investigating the process of client feedback and the use of technology to provide psychological services for underserved populations. He currently serves as an associate editor for The Counseling Psychologist and serves on the editorial board for Psychotherapy. Dr. Reese has several publications in top counseling and psychotherapy professional journals and has had multiple grants. He was recognized as Researcher of the Year by the Kentucky Psychological Association in 2019. He is also the co-author of The Skilled Helper: A Problem-Management & Opportunity-Development Approach to Helping along with Dr. Gerard Egan that is a popular basic counseling skills text. Dr. Reese is student-centered in his approach to working with students and in his leadership approach for the department. He has received multiple teaching and mentoring awards. Dr. Reese is originally from Abilene, Texas and grew up playing all kinds of sports, including baseball in college. He married his high school sweetheart and they have three children - Jake, Kate, and Rachel. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and tennis, sampling good bourbon and craft beer, and going to exotic places like Home Depot on the weekends.
