Engagement

Outreach is essential in the role of a teacher educator. Creating professional learning communities allows a culmination of collaboration to better ensure that our in-service teachers are staying current with new information and students are getting the best possible learning experiences. Technology is an integral part of a business education program.

Staying updated on the latest technology is important. Moreover, technology integration is vital for all educators and in all programs. We, as educators, must be aware that technology is used by students at a heightened rate. Constructively promoting the educational advancement of today’s young technology confident students requires training our teachers to implement new technology tools creatively.

Supporting and Conducting Research on Integrating Technology Most of my research involves integrating technology. One research study was specific to the integration of hardware, software, and technology tools being integrated into the business education classroom. More specifically, the perceptions to utilize the technology and barriers were also identified. Another study was specific to Web 2.0 applications being integrated into the k-12 classroom. This study investigated the knowledge, skill and perceived importance of integrating Web 2.0 into the classroom.

I have presented and have conference proceedings for two research projects at the national level. In addition, I have presented research regarding integrating technology at various conferences, including state, regional, national, and international levels. Providing Professional Development My research drives my delivery of professional development.

From each research project, I take the results and produce professional development to improve areas of weakness. I have presented multiple presentations aimed at providing information to educators to make integrating technology a success in their classroom.

Providing professional development to educators is a joy. I have the opportunity to share my knowledge about integrating technology into the classroom. In addition, I have the opportunity to speak to teachers that inform me of how they and their colleagues integrate technology. Developing Curriculum Material that Model Integrating Technology Most of the classes that I teach at Auburn University have a distance section. Because of that, integrating technology is essential.

During my classes I model appropriate use of technology to ensure that my students understand digital citizenship. My students and I communicate via Canvas, email, zoom, and multiple other ways via electronic communication. I developed a social media class in which students learn about various technology tools that can be integrated into their classroom.

Recently, I published in the Encyclopedia of Education and Technology in a Changing Society examining the benefits of integrating social media into the classroom.
