Short Bio
Dr. Chippewa Thomas is a supporting faculty member in the Counselor Education Ph.D. program and the Clinical Mental Health Counseling M.Ed. program within the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, and Counseling. Dr. Thomas is also the Director of the Office of Faculty Engagement and the Encyclopedia of Alabama, a department of the Vice President’s Office for University Outreach at Auburn University. Her research examines faculty development, wellness/vitality, mental health among other marginalized populations; international outreach education/study abroad and publicly engaged scholarship, Dr. Thomas has taught many of the courses in the counselor education curriculum. She particularly enjoys teaching the Group Counseling course and chairing doctoral dissertations.
Professional Experience
Dr. Thomas received her B.A. in Psychology from Tuskegee University. She received her graduate education at Auburn University, where she earned an M.Ed. in Community Agency Counseling, and a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision. Dr. Thomas received a certificate of continuing education from the Management Development Program (MDP), Harvard University Graduate School of Education Harvard Institutes for Higher Education (HIHE) in 2017. Dr.
Thomas has worked as a faculty member at Auburn University since 2005, and currently serves as CEU coordinator for the CED program area. Her national professional service roles have included member of the Ethics Committee for the American Counseling Association (ACA, 2011-2013) and Member of the American Mental health Counselors Association Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Taskforce (AMHCA 2020-2022).
