Short Bio

W. Gary Martin teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics education at Auburn University. He is a national leader in the field of mathematics education, including holding leadership positions in national organizations and serving on the writing team on multiple standards documents. He is the lead editor, co-editor or author of 10 books, author or co-author of dozens of journal articles and book chapters, lead or co-author on multiple sets of standards, and presenter of more than 150 sessions at national and international conferences.

Professional Experience

Dr. Martin earned his Ed.D. from the University of Georgia in mathematics education. Before coming to Auburn, he served as the director of research for National Council of Teacher of Mathematics and held positions at the University of Hawaiʻi and Northern Illinois University. He began his career as a high school mathematics teacher in Chesapeake, VA.

Engagement

Dr. Martin serves as director of the Mathematics Teacher Education Partnership, an NSF-funded national coalition of universities working to improve secondary mathematics teacher preparation, and the PI for DREAM-Math, an NSF-funded project to prepare persons with a STEM degree to become a mathematics teacher.
