Dr. Leslie Cordie is a Associate Professor of Adult Education within the Department of Educational Foundations, Leadership, and Technology at Auburn University, where she also serves as Affiliate Faculty with University Writing. A Fulbright Scholar with over 30 years of experience across academic, corporate, government, and military sectors, Dr. Cordie specializes in adult learning theory, professional development, and the application of AI in workforce education.
Her interdisciplinary research and international collaborations span the globe - including the Caribbean, UK, Ireland, and Asia, focusing on instructional design and comparative adult education. Dr. Cordie is a prolific educator who has taught extensively across graduate programs and the Training and Workforce Development minor. She is deeply passionate about fostering global connections and creating high-impact, inclusive learning experiences in hybrid and online environments.

Professional Experience
Dr. Leslie Cordie holds a PhD in Adult Education and Technical Communication from Colorado State University, where she specialized in distance learning, adult learning theory, and instructional design. Her multidisciplinary foundation, which includes an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin and a clinical background as a community health nurse, provides a unique, holistic perspective on the intersection of education, healthcare, and organizational business strategy.
Prior to her career in academia, Dr. Cordie established a robust professional record in quality and performance improvement, consulting for both the military and the aviation industry. As a Fulbright Scholar (2020-21), she expanded her global research and teaching footprint to the West Indies. Today, she remains a prominent figure in international adult education as the primary U.S. collaborator for Research Network #3 (Professionalization of Adult Educators) within the ASEM Lifelong Learning Hub. Her work with this Asian-European collaboration is further supported by her role as a Visiting Adjunct Professor with the Adult and Continuing Education (ACE) unit at University College Cork, Ireland.
A dedicated leader in the field, Dr. Cordie has served on the boards of the American Association of Adult and Continuing Education (AAACE), the PIMA Network, and the Alabama Chapter of the Fulbright Alumni Association. Her commitment to scholarship is reflected in her editorial leadership with the Adult Learning Journal and the Journal of Global Education and Research, as well as her current role as the Bulletin Editor for PIMA.
Innovation
My research interests can be divided into two broad but interrelated areas: (a) understanding and better optimizing the learning environment of adult learners in educational and training spaces; and (b) development of models and best practices for the integration of technology into the educational and training experiences.
Engagement
Due to her background in Adult Education, course design, and online learning, Dr. Cordie is frequently involved in both informal and formal activities that provide assistance to the broader Auburn community and beyond. Many of these interactions are one-off or limited consultations providing assistance with online course development, curriculum design, ePortfolio, learning technologies, professional training approaches, or similar projects. Cordie has created a series of podcasts for based on her recent book, Transitions. During the pandemic, Cordie also created a set of interviews with educators around the world about their lifelong learning lessons called, Conversations from the Front Porch.
