Short Bio
Dr. Jung Won Hur is a Professor of Instructional Technology at Auburn University. Her research interests focus on emerging technology integration, K-12 computer science education, diversity and equity in STEM, and international education. Her research explores ways to use emerging technology to support student learning, particularly minority students from low-income families, and investigates engaging ways to prepare teachers for computer science education.
Professional Experience
Dr. Hur earned her doctorate at Indiana University and received her M.Ed and B.S. from Seoul National University of Education, South Korea. Before coming to the U.S., she worked as an elementary school teacher in South Korea for six years. She served as the President of the Korean American Educational Researchers Association (2020-2021). She is currently involved in two NSF grant projects promoting interest and awareness of computer science among minority high school and college students from low-income families.
Engagement
Global Studies in Education: South Korea Program Since 2014, she has provided local school teachers and administrators with an opportunity to learn about Korean education systems and cultures by visiting South Korea for 10 days. Under her leadership, a total of 64 K-12 educators visited South Korea. ITEST-Alabama Project In collaboration with Tuskegee University faculty, she designed and implemented the ITEST-Alabama project, promoting minority students’ interest and awareness of computer science.
