Engagement

Dr. Hunter’s outreach involves the application of mental health expertise to patients impacted by Multiple Sclerosis and other autoimmune conditions within the local region (Alabama, Mississippi, and Georgia), as well as their care partners, service providers, and neurologists.

Alabama is among those states with the fewest mental health providers and the lowest provider-to-resident ratio of any state.

In 2015, Alabama ranked 49th in terms of access to mental health services. As such, individuals with chronic illness (such as Multiple Sclerosis) are less likely to have access to qualified psychoeducation and mental health services than their counterparts in other states/regions.
