Professor Alia Alghwiri is a physical therapist and academic specializing in neurological rehabilitation. She earned her Master’s and PhD degrees from the University of Pittsburgh, USA, in 2011. She has held several leadership roles, including Executive Board Member and Chair of the Education Committee at World Physiotherapy (2022–2023), Vice Dean of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Jordan (2018–2023), and President of the Jordanian Physiotherapy Society (2017–2020 and 2024–2026). She also served as a board member of the Jordanian Sports Medicine Federation (2017–2023) and president of the Jordanian Athletic Therapy Association (2026). Her career reflects a strong commitment to advancing physiotherapy education, rehabilitation research, and professional development.

Professional Experience
Before joining Auburn University, she was a professor in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Jordan, where she taught undergraduate and graduate students, conducted rehabilitation research, and contributed to the development of physical therapy education. During her time at the University of Jordan, she helped develop the entry-level physical therapy curriculum and establish two master’s programs. She also served as Vice Dean of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences and held several leadership roles within the physical therapy profession in Jordan and internationally, including serving on the Executive Board and as Chair of the Education Committee of World Physiotherapy.
Innovation
Professor Alia Alghwiri research interests are centered on neurological and vestibular rehabilitation, balance and mobility, rehabilitation outcomes, physical activity, and evidence-based physical therapy practice. She is particularly interested in developing and validating clinical assessment tools, improving rehabilitation interventions for people with neurological and vestibular disorders, and using innovative approaches and technology to improve patient outcomes. Her research has also expanded into areas such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, aging, concussion, sleep quality, and post-COVID conditions. She has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, international patents, and has been involved in numerous national and international research collaborations.
