Our innovative master’s degrees in science education expand upon your bachelor’s experiences. You’ll work directly with outstanding faculty to broaden your approach to teaching science in your specialization (biology, chemistry, physics, general sciences) while you earn your master’s. As a graduate of our M.Ed. program, you’ll be eligible to apply for Alabama Class A professional educator certification.
Our M.S. non-certification program provides an interdisciplinary graduate-level education for community-based or international educators who do not wish to gain teacher certification/licensure in the United States.

Alternative M.Ed. Degree Overview
We have three tracks in which you can specialize depending on your interests such as biology, physics, or chemistry.
Coursework — 34 hours minimum

Teaching field* — 12 hours

General Science requires one+ courses within the broader field (e.g. BIOL, CHEM, PHYS, GEOL)

Professional studies* — 21 to 24 hours
*Undergraduate courses may be required by your advisor committee for your plan of study. This coursework is in addition to the total hours noted above and must be completed prior to Clinical Residency.
M.Ed. Degree Overview
The M.Ed. degree leads to recommendation for Class A Alabama professional educator certification.
