The requirements below are in addition to the Auburn University Graduate School admission requirements.

If you are an international applicant and candidate for a U.S. non-immigrant visa for study, a certified statement indicating that financial resources are available to defray the cost of graduate education, a medical insurance plan, and a TOEFL or IELTS test
Although we only require a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university, we strongly recommend that our graduate students, who have not completed undergraduate degrees in kinesiology or other related fields, complete undergraduate coursework in exercise physiology, biomechanics, and motor learning prior to starting a graduate degree program in Kinesiology.
Additionally, basic science courses are the foundation of the Kinesiology academic discipline and we suggest securing this knowledge prior to starting our program. Based on your interest and studies in our graduate program, the following foundational coursework is recommended:
Exercise Science
- Concentration in Biomechanics – General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Physics
- Concentration in Exercise Physiology – General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, General Chemistry
- Concentration in Motor Behavior – General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, General Psychology
Exercise, Performance, and Health Optimization
- Concentration in Physical Activity and Health – General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology
- Concentration in Fitness, Conditioning, and Performance – General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology
Physical Education Teacher Education
- General Biology, Anatomy & Physiology
APPLICATION DEADLINES
The application and all other relevant materials must be received by the Graduate School by the following dates:
- February 1 for Graduate Assistantships***
- May 1 for Fall semester start (August)
- April 1 for International applicants for Fall semester start (August)
***GRADUATE TEACHING ASSISTANTSHIPS
Funding opportunities for tuition support can be achieved through the appointment of a graduate teaching assistantship. School of Kinesiology assistantships are typically .50 FTE appointments. GTAs are expected to work 20 hours per week. Assistantships pay for:
- university tuition (up to 15 hours per Fall and Spring term only)*,
- student fees, and
- special course fees.
Note: Summer term is not a full tuition waiver unless the student has a specific assistantship responsibility.
All assistantships are 1-year appointments. Based on job performance, academic standing/progression, and funding availability, graduate students may qualify for additional years of funding as specified by the School of Kinesiology. For doctoral students, up to four years of support is typical.
GTA APPLICATION DEADLINE – FEBRUARY 1
If you are interested in applying for an assistantship, please complete the teaching assistantship form when completing your on-line graduate application. FEBRUARY 1st is the deadline for assistantship applications for the upcoming academic year. In order to be considered for an assistantship, all graduate school admission application materials and the assistantship application must be complete.
