Earning an Ed.S. in History or Social Science Education will enhance your teaching competence beyond your master’s degree.  Earn your Class AA teaching certification while expanding your skills as a teacher-leader in secondary and post secondary settings. Your degree culminates in a field project that addresses a practical problem in your field.


Degree Overview

The Ed.S degree leads to recommendation for Class AA Alabama professional educator certification.

Coursework — 30 hours minimum

  • Teaching field courses (History or Social Science) — 12 hours

    • General Social Studies programs shall require at least one course in two areas within the broader field (i.e., ECON, GEOG, HIST, POLI)

  • Social science/history education and/or professional courses* — 18 hours

    • Includes Field Project

*RSED 6000/6006 Advanced Survey of Exceptionality is required if a survey of special education course was not previously completed.
