If you have a master’s degree, but aren’t quite ready for a Ph.D., an Ed.S. may be right for you. In our Ed.S. program, focus on your area of specialty (biology, chemistry, physics, or general science), expand upon your master’s work, and earn a Class AA Alabama teaching certification. You’ll complete a field project that addresses a practical problem in science education.

Degree Overview

The Ed.S. degree leads to recommendation for Class AA Alabama professional educator certification.

Coursework — 30-33 hours minimum

  • Teaching field — 12 hours

    • General Science programs shall require at least one course in two areas within the broader field (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, geology).

  • Science education and professional courses* — 18 hours

    • Includes Field Project

*RSED 6000/6006 Advanced Survey of Exceptionality is required if a survey of special education course was not previously completed.
