Expand your knowledge and deepen your skills in our Foreign Language Education master’s programs. We offer alternative and traditional master’s degrees in Spanish Education and French Education. Earn your master’s degree online or on campus working with excellent and committed faculty members. As a graduate of our M.Ed. program, you’ll be eligible to apply for Alabama Class A professional educator certification. Our M.S. non-certification program provides an interdisciplinary graduate-level education for community-based or international educators who do not wish to gain teacher certification/licensure in the United States.

Alternative M.Ed. Degree

The Alternative M.Ed. degree leads to recommendation for Class A Alabama professional educator certification.

This program is offered on campus or online.

Coursework — 39 hours

  • Teaching Field — 15 hours

  • Professional studies Courses* — 24 hours

*Undergraduate courses may be required by your advisor committee for your plan of study.  This coursework is in addition to the total hours noted above and must be completed prior to Clinical Residency.

M.Ed. Degree

The M.Ed. degree leads to recommendation for Class A Alabama professional educator certification.

Coursework — 30 hours minimum

  • Teaching field courses — 15 hours

  • Foreign language education courses — 12 hours

  • Advisor-approved courses* — 3 hours

*RSED 6000/6006 Advanced Survey of Exceptionality is required if a survey of special education course was not previously completed

  • Foreign language education courses — 9 hours

  • Orientation to teaching and learning – 1 hour

  • Advisor-approved instructional design course — 3 hours

  • Electives — 15 hours

  • Capstone in teaching and learning — 2 hours
