In an effort to keep you better connected to Auburn University's College of Education, we present the first edition of EduNews, a periodic electronic newsletter that will provide updates on the accomplishments of faculty, students and alums and advance notice of special events. Below is a list of headlines and stories from all corners of the college.

DEAN'S MESSAGE
Kochan announces plans to step down as dean, search begins for replacement
Having helped the College of Education polish its national and international reputation for scholarship, research and outreach, Dr. Frances Kochan recently announced her decision to retire from the deanship in the summer of 2010 and return to a faculty position. A search is under way for her successor.

Faculty and staff support college and university 100 percent
The College of Education helped set the standard for giving among all campus units during Auburn University's 2009 Faculty Staff Campaign by achieving a 100 percent participation rate for the first time in the initiative's four-year history. The College of Education and the School of Nursing led the university's 13 academic unites with perfect participation rates.
College receives high marks in U.S.News and World Report rankings
For the third consecutive year, the college placed in the top 25 percent of the U.S.News and World Report "Best Graduate School'' rankings.
Reed helping tackle issue of high school dropout prevention
When the Alabama State Legislature recently formed a task force to combat the state's dropout rate, it included experts from a variety of backgrounds - education, business, community and civic leaders. Cindy Reed, director of the Truman Pierce Institute and a professor of educational leadership, was the only state university professor named to the Alabama Select Commission on High School Graduation and Student Dropouts, and for good reason. She has continually demonstrated her commitment to finding a solution.
Former AU drum major leads parade of music education researchers
Kim Walls used to lead the Auburn University Marching Band into stadiums, but she hasn't lost her ability to command a crowd. These days, she's leading a high quality music education program and preparing to deliver the Distinguished Graduate Faculty Lecture.
