Robinson receives International Travel Grant

May 2009

Dr. Leah Robinson, an assistant professor in the Department of Kinesiology, received an International Travel Grant from the Office of the Provost.

The $3,476 grant will be used to fund a trip to the 16th annual World International Association of Physical Education and Sport for Girls and Women (IAPESGW  link to external web site) Congress set for July 16-19 in Cape Town, South Africa. IAPESGW represents and promotes the interests of girls and women at all levels in all areas of physical education and support. The purpose of the conference is to increase international cooperation and professional discourse by bringing together women from around the world who work in the fields of physical education and sports.

Robinson and Dr. Mary E. Rudisill, head of the Department of Kinesiology, are presenting their research projects "Effects of High Autonomy Physical Play Environments (HAPPE) on Skill Development and Perceived Competence in Girls" and "Creating Equitable Motivational Learning Climates for all Learners: An Overview of High Autonomy Physical Play Environments (HAPPE)." Both studies focus on designing physical activity and movement programs that meet the developmental needs of girls.
