TEAM-Math hosting statistics education colloquium

TEAM-Math  link to external web site (Transforming East Alabama Mathematics), a partnership of faculty members in Auburn University's College of Education, AU's College of Sciences and Mathematics and Tuskegee University, will host a colloquium on statistical literacy on Tuesday, Feb. 17, at 4:15 p.m. in Student Center 2107.

The session, entitled "Developing a Statistically Literate Society: Promoting Statistical Thinking in Grades K-16,'' will feature presentations by Dr. Gary Kader, a professor of mathematical sciences at Appalachian State University, and Dr. Christine Franklin, a senior lecturer and honors professor of statistics at the University of Georgia. Kader and Franklin were the lead writers for the Guidelines of Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education  link to external web site (GAISE) project funded by the American Statistical Association.

The colloquium is open to students and faculty members with an interest in statistics.

Kader and Franklin will discuss the importance of statistical literacy as a means of interpreting information delivered by media sources as well as the role numbers play in governing our lives with regard to citizenship, family and employment.
