Auburn University's College of Education announced the creation of two new offices, the appointment of an interim department head and the introduction of 12 new faculty members in conjunction with the start of the new academic year.

The college welcomed Rodney Greer as director of the newly established Office of Research and Innovation, created with the help of a $1 million gift by 1968 graduates Wayne T. and Cheryl Smith. Under Greer's guidance, the office will support faculty research efforts to identify, cultivate and pursue state, regional, national and international funding opportunities and facilitate grant preparation and completion of funded projects. Before coming to Auburn, Greer served for four years as the assistant to the dean for teacher education partnerships, professional development and technology in Western Illinois University's College of Education and Human Services.

Melanie Brooks is coordinator of the recently created Office of International Programs.  In this capacity, she will direct the Consortium for Overseas Student Teaching (COST), expand opportunities for study abroad programs and promote research and service learning opportunities for undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff.   She serves in a joint appointment as a reference/instruction librarian at Auburn's Ralph B. Draughon Library.

Dr. E. Davis Martin, Wayne T. Smith distinguished professor, will serve as interim head of the newly created Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling/School Psychology.  The department is the result of the merger of the Department of Rehabilitation and Special Education and Department of Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology and School Psychology in August. Martin, who joined the College of Education faculty in 2003, is the graduate program director of the college's Rehabilitation Counseling program and co-coordinator of the department's doctoral program in rehabilitation and special education.

The college also welcomes the following new faculty members:

Dr. Lisa Kasmer, Dr. Angela Love, Dr. Deborah Morowski, Dr. Brian Parr and Dr. Jonghee Shim and Dr. T. Lee Williams in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching; Dr. Carey Andrzejewski, Dr. Jeffrey S. Brooks and Dr. Lisa Kensler in the Department of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Technology; Dr. John C. Quindry in the Department of Kinesiology; and Dr. Margaret Flores and Dr. DaShaunda Patterson in the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling/School Psychology.
