Saye named alumni professor

SayeJuly 30, 2008
Dr. John W. Saye Jr., a professor in the Auburn University College of Education, has been named an alumni professor by the Auburn Alumni Association.  The association sponsors 25, five-year non-renewable alumni professorships, which carry an annual $3,500 salary supplement.

Saye has been a member of the Department of Curriculum and Teaching faculty since 1994, after completing his doctorate in social science education at the University of Georgia.  He is also the program coordinator for the college's Secondary Social Science Education program.  Saye, along with Indiana University's Dr. Tom Brush, directs the Persistent Issues in History project.

Among his other Auburn accolades is the 2006 Outstanding Faculty Award for Research from the College of Education and the 1999 Outstanding Professor Award from the Auburn Panhellenic Council.

Nominations for the professorships were sought from department heads through deans by the Provost's Office.  The awards are presented on the basis of research, publishing and teaching.  The five 2008 alumni professors will be honored at a university-wide awards ceremony in the fall.
