Evans receives Outstanding Mentor Award from honor society
July 23, 2008
Nancy Evans, office associate in the College of Education's Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling/School Psychology, recently received the 2008 IDS Outstanding Mentor Award from the Iota Delta Sigma Honor Society. Iota Delta Sigma (IDS) is the Auburn University chapter of Chi Sigma Iota, an international honor society for students, professional counselors and counselor educators.
This award seeks to recognize professionals and students who have been mentors to and supporters of students in their development as counselors, advocates and professionals. It has been presented to supervisors, counselors, students and educators.
Evans was nominated by students in IDS for this award. In their nominations, students discussed not only Evans' ability and desire to help students, but the manner in which she was consistently encouraging, supportive and enthusiastic. They noted her positive outlook and the genuinely caring manner in which she interacts with students.
Dr. Jamie Carney, professor and IDS faculty adviser, said Evans works with students through her formal capacity in the departmental office and in the past she has also worked with the Iota Delta Sigma chapter in assisting with activities and fundraising.
"I have appreciated her time in these activities, but as you can tell from the students, her greatest contribution is the personal qualities she brings to her work with students," Carney said.
