World-renowned Grandin to speak on autism
Dr. Temple Grandin is known to some as an expert in livestock; however, to others, she is recognized as an accomplished and well-known adult with autism. Grandin will speak on her story and what it is like to learn and live with autism Wednesday, Jan. 23 at Foy Student Union Room 202 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Her seminar is presented by the Auburn University Autism Center in the College of Education.
Grandin's books have made a powerful impact on the Autism community as she is the first to explain autism from an insider's perspective. They are considered revolutionary because of the narrative style through which she tells her story. She been featured on major television programs, such as "ABC's Primetime Live," the "Today Show," "Larry King Live," "48 Hours" and "20/20" and appeared in national publications, such as Time magazine, People magazine, Forbes, U.S. News and World Report, and New York Times.
One in 150 children born today will be diagnosed with autism. The Auburn University Autism Center's mission is to optimize the learning potential for those with autism. For more information about this event contact Whitney Mead, 334.844.2027 (meadeww@auburn.edu).
