EFLT faculty appointed to Governor's Congress

Drs. Jose Llanes and Cynthia Reed, faculty in the college's Department of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Technology, have been appointed to the Governor's Congress on School Leadership II.

The Governor's Congress II is a follow-up to the original Governor's Congress, which was assembled in 2004 by Governor Bob Riley and State Superintendent of Education, Dr. Joe Morton to study school leadership in Alabama.  The congress made recommendations in the areas of professional standards, university preparation and program redesign, certification, professional development and working conditions.  The Governor's Congress II will study the proposals made by the original congress, review progress and make recommendations for further study or implementation.

The Governor's Congress II, which is being funded by a grant from the Wallace Foundation, is expected to meet six times over the next year to provide ideas on policies and procedures regarding the preparation and support of instructional leaders in Alabama.  Approximately 30 people were appointed to the congress by the State Superintendent of Education.
