Governor reappoints Martin to State Rehabilitation Council

October 2008

Matin, Dave
Dr. Dave Martin
Gov. Bob Riley recently reappointed Dr. E. Davis Martin, a Wayne T. Smith distinguished professor in Auburn University's College of Education, to the Alabama State Rehabilitation Council  link to external web site.

Martin, the interim head of the college's newly created Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling/School Psychology, serves as chair of the council's Program Evaluation and Consumer Services Committee.

The council draws its 28 members from the ranks of employers, people with disabilities and parents of children with disabilities. Recently, the council assisted the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services in creating and implementing a statewide assessment to gauge the unfulfilled needs of individuals with disabilities. At its quarterly meetings, the rehabilitation council advises ADRS on issues relating to vocational rehabilitation services. Through its partnership with ADRS, the council sets and reviews goals and priorities for and evaluates the effectiveness of Alabama's vocational rehabilitation program.

In confirming reappointment to Martin in a September letter, Riley wrote that he placed a high value on "honesty and integrity."

"I know that you plan to embody these two virtues while serving the people of Alabama," Riley wrote.

Martin, who joined the College of Education faculty in 2003 and was named a distinguished professor in 2007, directs the Rehabilitation Counseling graduate program and serves as co-coordinator of the doctoral program in rehabilitation and special education.
