Education's Eick honored for science education contributions
Charles Eick 06

Dr. Charles J. Eick, associate professor of secondary science education, will be presented with the John Shurm Award for excellence in the education of science teachers by the Southeastern Association of Science Teacher Education (SASTE) at its Oct. 6-7 annual conference.

This annual award was established to honor an SASTE member whose contributions to science education best exemplify the high standards of dedication and service that distinguished this award's namesake, John Shrum. Eick will also receive a $300 prize as a part of the award.

Eick is a faculty member and secondary science education program coordinator in the college's Department of Curriculum and Teaching.  He joined the faculty in 1999 after earning his Ph.D. at Auburn.  Eick supervises interns and teaches science methods and program courses for secondary science education undergraduate and graduate students. He also conducts research on teacher education and writes grants to fund small and large projects.
