Llanes joins Education as EFLT Department head
Jose Llanes has been named department head of the Department of Education Leadership Foundations and Technology (EFLT) in Auburn's College of Education.
He succeeds William Spencer who has served as department head since 2001 and has returned to full-time teaching and research. "Dr. Spencer's leadership has proved to be a tremendous asset to our college," said Dean Frances K. Kochan.
Llanes joins AU from the University of Texas where he served as Chair of the Educational Leadership Department
at the Pan American campus in Edinburg, Texas. He is interested in quality systems theory as applied to learning organizations and was most recently involved in improving the quality of health education in the schools and community agencies along and across the border with Mexico, as investigator for grants with the National Institutes of Health, the Pfizer Corporation and the Department of Education. Llanes has served as a professor at the University of Miami, Boston University, the University of San Francisco and others. He is the Managing Editor of the Continuous Improvement Monitor a journal of quality systems in education, which he will continue to edit from this campus. Originally from Cuba, Llanes obtained a doctorate in social sciences from the University of Havana.
