Jenkins '83 named Education's "Outstanding Alumnus"
Dr. Terry Jenkins, superintendent of Auburn City Schools and a 1983 College of Education graduate, has been named the college's 2006 Outstanding Alumnus.
In selecting Jenkins for this honor, Education Dean Frances Kochan noted his involvement in making a number of the college's K-12 partnerships and initiatives successful.
"While our college enjoys the support of so many school systems locally and regionally, the support we receive from Auburn City Schools often goes above and beyond expectations," Kochan said. "From opening the doors to programs like TEAM-Math and the AU Autism Center to his participation on our college's National Advisory Council, Dr. Jenkins exemplifies the competent, committed and reflective professional we strive to help all our graduates become."
Kochan citied his leadership as president of the School Superintendents of Alabama, as well as being selected as superintendent of the year in two statesGeorgia and, most recently, Alabamaas reflecting highly on the quality of the college's graduates.
Jenkins move to Auburn City Schools in 2000 concluded a 31-year educational career in Georgia that included 22 years as a superintendent and one year as CEO of Georgia's School Superintendent Association. He also served as both an elementary and high school principal, and a classroom teacher.
In addition to his serve to the college's National Advisory Council and School Superintendents of Alabama, he is a member of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and a graduate of Leadership Alabama.
Jenkins also holds master's and educational specialist degrees from West Georgia State University, and a bachelor's degree from David Lipscomb University.
