Henderson joins effort to improve K-12 school leadership

henderson.jewellDr. Jewell Winlock Henderson, assistant professor in the College of Education, has been appointed to the Governor's Congress on School Leadership link to external web site as a delegate representing educational leadership professors.

Henderson is among the faculty of the college's Department of Educational Foundation, Leadership and Technology.

Gov. Bob Riley established this initiative in December 2004 to improve the quality of educational leaders in Alabama's public schools. The new Governor's Congress on School Leadership will be charged with examining school leadership issues and making recommendations to Governor Riley and the State Board of Education.

About 200 educators and business leaders are taking part in the effort to redesign the state's school leadership requirements.  The Governor's Congress is composed of both task force members and delegates.  As a delegate, Henderson will work with others in providing assistance to each task force.  These task force groups address issues in preparing, selecting, certifying and retaining principals and other school leaders.
