| Rudisill named Acting Department Head of Health and Human Performance Mary Rudisill, a Humana-Germany-Sherman distinguished professor in the AU College
of Education's Department of Health and Human Performance, has been named acting
department head until an external search can be conducted.
Rudisill replaces Dennis Wilson, who has served as department head for 23 years and been a faculty member for more than 31 years. Wilson is looking forward to returning to the faculty as a professor. "I have been head of Health and Human Performance since 1981, and I feel that this is a good time for me to return to the faculty. I have thoroughly enjoyed these 23 years as department head," Wilson said. "I have been blessed to lead a highly capable, collegial and hard-working faculty and staff group, and I take great pride in the accomplishments of our department. I do believe that I am stepping down from the leadership post of a strong and mature department that will continue to thrive." Interim Dean Bonnie White said while Wilson will be missed in his leadership position, she is pleased that he will remain a part of the College of Education as a faculty member and she looks forward to working with Rudisill in her role as acting department head. "I am pleased to announce that Mary Rudisill has been named acting department head. She continues to demonstrate her dedication and commitment to this college, her students and her work in the community. We are proud to have her on our faculty and as a leader within our college," she said. Rudisill, who was named a distinguished professor in November 2004, has been on the faculty since 1996. Her work focuses on early childhood motor development, encouraging children to be more active while promoting the development of all the body's systems through physical play. Rudisill said it all boils down to helping children reach their full potential through movement. She earned her bachelor's and master's degrees from Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., and her doctorate from Florida State University. Rudisill said a national external search will be conducted once a permanent dean has been appointed for the college.
