Second series of research and outreach briefs distributed
The college's Office of Research, Human Resource Development & Outreach has
published its second series of Brief Impact Reports on research and outreach programs.
The purpose of these reports is to promote endeavors of faculty members with an
emphasis on activities that have a statewide or national impact.

Brief Impact Research Report: Lactate: A "Good Citizen" - Bruce Gladden, a Humana-Germany-Sherman Distinguished Professor in the Department
of Health and Human Performance, has been conducting exciting research on the
expanding role of lactate in metabolism. This research brief explains past views
on lactate as well as new findings concerning lactate metabolism.
Outreach & You: Improving Mathematics Education in East Alabama Thourgh the
TEAM-Math Partnership - TEAM-Math is a partnership among Auburn University's College of Education
and College of Sciences and Mathematics, tuskegee University and 12 school districts,
along with other organizations. Directed by Gary Martin and Marilyn Strutchens,
associate professors in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, TEAM-Math was
awarded a $9 million grant from NSF in October 2003 to help improve the learning
and teaching of mathematics in East Alabama. This outreach briefs explains the
mission and purpose of TEAM-Math.
Outreach & You: Outreach Brief: The Intersection of Pedagogy, Culture, and
Quilts - The Gee's Bend Quilts have become a national phenomenon with exhibits across
the country sparking reviews from raving to raging. Jada Kohlmeier, assistant
professor in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching, is serving as a curriculum
consultant and working with an interdisciplinary team of faculty researchers from
the College of Liberal Arts in a project that re-contextualizes the quilts and
quiler's of Gee's Bend, a rural region in West Alabama. This outreach brief explains
the project in more detail and refers to the two two-week curriculum development
workshops hosted at AU this summer.
