| Jenkins '85 named 2005 Alabama Superintendent of the Year November 16, 2004
The School Superintendents of Alabama (SSA) has named Dr. J. Terry Jenkins of
Auburn City Schools as
Dr. Jenkins has served as superintendent of the Auburn City Schools System since
2000. He had retired after a 31-year career in education in
Not only is Dr. Jenkins a strong leader for the Auburn City School System, he
is also a leader for the School Superintendents of Alabama, currently serving
as the association's president-elect. Since 2002 through the end of this year,
he is serving as the Legislative Committee chair for SSA and the Council for Leaders
in Alabama Schools (CLAS). He serves as the Legislative Committee chair for SSA
and the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools Education Employees' Health Insurance
Program, 2003-2005. Dr. Jenkins also shares his leadership skills in his community
by serving as a board member of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce, the National Advisory
Committee for the
Because Dr. Jenkins is such a strong public education advocate and leader in
SSA, he continues his professional development by attending district and state
conferences of the SSA, CLAS, and the Alabama Association of School Boards (AASB).
He also has attended the American Association of School Administrators National
Conference on the Education and the Southeastern Superintendents Institute.
