Sept. 23, 2003
Harry Wilkinson '64, a native of Macon,Ga., and director of Guoco Group Limited in Hong Kong, will visit the Auburn University campus as part of the College of Education's inaugural Distinguished Alumni Lecturer series.
Wilkinson, who is also the retired chief financial officer of Orient Overseas International, earned a bachelor's degree in general social science education from the college in 1964. He is on the Board of Directors of three companies in Hong Kong and is a member of the Visiting Committee of the University of Michigan Business School, where he earned three master's degrees. At Auburn, Wilkinson serves as a member of the College of Business Advisory Council.
From 1983 until a recent move to Bellevue, Wash., Wilkinson lived in Hong Kong. Prior to his move to Washington, he worked for Manufacturers HanoverTrust in Oslo, Norway, where he managed a $2 billion shipping and offshore portfolio.
Although he may have used his social sciences education degree from Auburn in a different capacity than the norm, Wilkinson is proud of his time at Auburn and in the College of Education. He was recently quoted in the College of Business' Shareholder magazine as saying, "It's often a person's undergraduate school that means the most. That's where you first learn to be an adult."
