This African experience is open to juniors, seniors and graduate students in the College of Education.
Location:

Arusha, Tanzania, Africa

Travel Dates:
May 9 to June 6, 2010
Objectives:
Provide pre-service teachers and graduate students opportunities to
Arrow develop students  skills for relating to culturally different individuals in various situations, so students may become aware of cultural differences, reflect upon them, and be comfortable living and working in diverse environments           
Arrow facilitate students  intellectual growth by exposing them to knowledge, concepts and experiences reflecting a different cultural frame of reference, and stimulate their interest in cross-cultural and international learning    
Arrow learn Swahili and Tanzanian culture and history
Arrow participate in an outreach/service project
Arrow experience co-teaching and co-planning with teachers in Tanzania (15 hours a week will be spent in classrooms)
Academic Credit: 
Arrow Undergraduate: CTEE 4910 Practicum (3-6 hours) and CTEE 4970 Special Topics (3 hours)
Arrow Graduate: CTEE 7910 Practicum (3-6 hours) and CTEE 7970 Special Topics (3 hours)
Passport/VISA requirements:
Students will be required to have a valid passport, good for six months after they return to the United States. If a student does not have a passport, he or she must apply in person. Passports can be applied for at most U.S. post offices. Students will also be required to purchase a Tanzanian passport upon arrival in Arusha.
Accommodations and Meals:
Students will live at the Outpost Bed and Breakfast link to external web site. A hot breakfast will be provided each morning, along with three evening meals a week. The Outpost is situated in the center of Arusha with easy access to restaurants, shops and public transportation.
Cultural Excursions:
Program fees include a weekend stay in a Masai Village, a weekend hike on Mt. Meru, and a four-day Safari in the Ngorogoro Crater.

$3,800-$4,500 program fee
