Participation:
This Costa Rican experience is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors in the College of Education who will be taking FOUN 3000: Diversity of Learners and Settings.
Location:
San Jose, Costa Rica
Travel Dates:
May 3 to May 16, 2009
Objectives:
Provide pre-professional educators with an experience to:
 increase their comfort and confidence in international settings
 obtain the knowledge and skills needed to lead student sin international environments
 increase their understanding of diversity in a unique and powerful way
 gain community and cultural engagement experience as future community leaders
Academic
Credit:
Courses offered include FOUN 3000 (2 hours) and Service Learning Lab (3 hours)
Passport/VISA Requirements:
Students will be required to have a valid passport, good for six months after they return to the United States.  If as student does not have a passport, he or she must apply in person.  Passports can be applied for at most U.S. post offices
Living Arrangements/
Housing:
The group will travel to Heredia, Costa Rica, together, and will be placed in private homes where students will stay with a Costa Rican family, which has been authorized by Auburn's partner, the National University of Costa Rica, to host foreign students.
Meals:
Breakfast and dinner are included
Transportation:
Transportation to and from the service-learning site will be provided.
Costs and Deadlines:
$1,800 to $2,250 program fee
Registration is open and ongoing.
