Leadership for Effective Academic Reform Now (LEARN)

Leadership for Effective Academic Reform Now (LEARN) addresses the need for ongoing and sustainable professional development for school administrators and teacher leaders through developing or supporting leadership academies in nine Alabama rural school systems. LEARN is funded by the Alabama State Department of Education through NCLB Title II and V funding, specifically Title II, Part A, Improving Teacher Quality State Grants. The nine school districts participating in LEARN include Bullock County Schools, Dallas County Schools, Fayette County Schools, Hale County Schools, Lee County Schools (Loachapoka), Macon County Schools, Monroe County Schools, Sumter County Schools, and Tallapoosa County Schools. LEARN programming includes job-embedded professional development offered within each district, regionally, and coalition-wide; new teacher mentor support training and resources; and development of Professional Learning Unit eligible professional development modules for School Leaders on Ethics and Diversity. Both of these modules will be collaboratively developed by university professors and K-12 practitioners and will be field-tested late summer/early fall in select LEARN districts.
