Summer Learning Clinic
The Department of Rehabilitation & Special Education's Summer Learning Clinic is an intensive four week program offered for students with mild learning problems, learning disabilities, behavioral difficulties and/or autism spectrum disorders.
Since 1990, more than 2,900 such students have received individually designed tutorial instruction through this outreach program. Instruction for students aged 6-13 is offered in reading, math and language arts with emphasis on areas of concern for individual students. Also, instruction in social skills is offered for children with behavior deficits. For students aged 14-21, instruction is provided in important life-centered areas, such as functional reading and math skills, independent living skills and self-advocacy skills. A low student-teacher ratio is stressed for all learning sections for all age groups.
Each summer, the clinic meets in designated Auburn public schools Monday through Friday from 8 to 11 a.m. Tuition is $200 per child with a limited number of scholarships available through donations made by local community agencies. Applications are available through local public schools, as well as from the Department of Rehabilitation & Special Education.
