Welcome to the Department of Special Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling/School Psychology!

As our mission statement indicates, we are committed to providing high-quality instruction to our students, ensuring competency, leadership, and a desire to contribute to society. In keeping with the conceptual framework link to external web site of the College of Education, we prepare competent, committed, reflective professionals.

The training, instruction, and professional development of students is illustrated through stated goals and a Development Plan, which indicates our desire for continued improvement. With a strong committment to diversity, faculty, staff, and students are challenged to support and promote diversity-related instruction, scholarship, outreach, and professional activities.

Our academic programs are accredited by:
  • The American Psychological Association (APA)
  • Council for the Accreditation of Counseling-Related Educational Programs (CACREP)
  • Alabama State Department of Education (SDE)
  • Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Education (CORE)
With multiple accredited programs from which to choose, many opportunities and resources are available to our current students and alumni. Visiting our Annual Reports will show the professional, scholarly, and leadership contributions from our faculty, students, and alumni. We are proud of these achievements, and we encourage all students and faculty to seek greater personal and professional development.
