At the annual meeting of the American Board of Vocational Experts (ABVE) held in Seattle, Washington in late March 2007, Dr. E. Davis Martin, Jr., Professor of Rehabilitation Counseling, was presented the Presidential Citation  award "for his support and outstanding contribution as Journal Editor..." by Donald Jennings, President of the ABVE. Martin was named editor of the Journal of Forensic Vocational Analysis, a refereed publication, in 2005. Since assuming the editorship of the journal, the format and style has been dramatically transformed to a highly readable publication incorporating traditional scholarly articles with a commentary section focusing on current topics of interest and importance to the community of vocational experts.

A recently released survey conducted by the ABVE revealed that the overwhelming majority of the membership said the journal enhances members' knowledge, promotes the use of sound, effective methodologies, and enhances commitment to objectivity. The focus of the journal is to publish articles that maintain currency of knowledge regarding the effects of personal injury on earning capacity, labor market changes, hiring practices, knowledge of occupational requirements, as well as the growth and decline of patterns in the labor market. The American Board of Vocational Experts is a professional credentialing body established in 1982 as a not for profit organization that recognizes practitioner expertise at the diplomate or fellow status through a rigorous national examination, review of practitioner assessments, and extensive forensic experience.

Martin, a faculty member in the Department of Rehabilitation and Special Education, joined Auburn University in January 2003 from Virginia Commonwealth University where he held a number of faculty and administrative positions. He is the author/editor of five textbooks that are used in Rehabilitation Counseling programs throughout the United States . His most recent book, Principles and Practices of Case Management in Rehabilitation Counseling was published by Charles C Thomas earlier this year.
