Graduate Fellowships and Assistantships
The Graduate Athletic Training Program works directly with the Kenny Howard Foundation and Auburn Athletics to coordinate graduate fellowships and assistantships.  Additionally, a few local physical therapy clinics provide funding in exchange for clinical work.

Kenny Howard Fellowship

Graduate Fellowships are available through the Kenny Howard Athletic Training Fellowship Program. The Kenny Howard Foundation provides funding for master's and doctoral students in the Post-Certification Graduate Athletic Training Program at Auburn University. Working in conjunction with East Alabama Medical Center, these two-year fellowships include the opportunity to serve as the Head Athletic Trainer at a local high school as well as participation in "Bumps and Bruises" clinics, parks and recreation events, dissection seminars, and clinical experience at RehabWorks Physical Rehabilitation Center.  The Kenny Howard clinical coordinator works with the Graduate Program Coordinator to provide support and assistance to all Kenny Howard Fellows throughout their fellowship.

Fort Benning Army Graduate Assistantship

The Fort Benning Army ATC GA program involves working with Army infantry recruits during basic and infantry training. This is a two-year assistantship that includes a full tuition waiver, stipend, and some travel funds. This program requires early morning hours, and some Saturday time; however evening and team travel are not required. These positions are highly competitive and offer an outstanding opportunity to work alongside and coordinate care with military medical command, physical therapists, occupational therapists, orthopaedic surgeons, Army medics, and Army Command. Eligibility for these GA positions require acceptance by and continued enrollment in the Post-Certification Graduate Athletic Training Program.

Auburn Athletic Department Graduate Assistantships

Graduate Assistantships available through the Auburn University Sports Medicine Program provide the Athletic Trainer the opportunity to cover Auburn Athletics teams. These positions require application directly through the Auburn University Department of Athletics.  Position openings with sports teams vary each year, and assignments will depend on department needs. Acceptance as a Graduate Assistant in the Auburn Athletic Department does not guarantee acceptance into the Post-Certification Graduate Athletic Training Program.  Application for the Graduate Program must be made separately through the Department of Kinesiology.

Other Opportunities

Another option is to work with one of our other contractors. We are continuously developing clinical arrangements with additional orthopedic clinics and other new venues to provide a wide range of clinical experiences for our students. Openings in these will vary year to year.

You can learn more about current opportunities by contacting the program coordinator.

Most of the above positions include a stipend, full tuition waver and other benefits.  Specifics will vary with the position and the sponsor. Information on openings and specific opportunities can be found through current position listings or by contacting the program coordinator.
