Academic Departments
The College of Education is organized into five academic departments.
Department of Counselor Education, Counseling Psychology, and School Psychology COUN offers high quality graduate education programs for counselors, counselor educators and counseling and school psychologists. Graduates develop the tools they need to address psychological, social and environmental barriers to educational achievement and personal development through a combination of coursework and closely supervised clinical experiences.
Department of Curriculum and Teaching
C&T houses all of the teacher education programs with the exception of special education and physical education. All of the programs, classwork and field experiences focus on preparing students to become quality educators and implementing the latest instructional methods for teaching in today's classrooms.
Department of Educational Foundations, Leadership and Technology
EFLT prepares exemplary educational practitioners and develops cooperative partnerships with university departments, schools, community agencies and business and industry to provide outstanding educators, trainers and leaders. This department ensures that students will participate in theoretical, applied and practitioner-based research enhancing the fields of adult education, educational leadership, educational media and educational psychology.
Department of Kinesiology (formerly Health and Human Performance)
KINE concentrates on living up to its name. Students in this department will focus on improving the health or performance of individuals by using an intervention model. They will learn how to intervene in the lives of those who wish to become healthier or want to improve their athletic performance. Experiences run the gamut from trying to help an elderly person be well and fit to motivating the young child to be more physically active to assisting the elite athlete run faster or jump higher.
Department of Rehabilitation and Special Education
RSED serves individuals with special needs and disabilities. Students are prepared as special education teachers to work with students with mental retardation, learning disabilities and behavior disorders. Through the rehabilitation program, students are prepared to serve people with disabilities at the postschool age level through a number of career pursuits including vocational evaluators and adjustment specialists, case managers and job coaches.
