EDUCATIONAL SPECIALIST DEGREE (Ed. S.)
SCHOOL LIBRARY MEDIA SPECIALIST (MSE)

A graduate degree and certification program for professional educators who desire increased competence in the field of school library media and instructional technology. This program may be planned to meet Alabama AA certification in library media. A minimum of 30 semester hours is required to complete the program, including a field project (6 semester hours) and successful completion of a final comprehensive examination. Courses already taken for a master's degree and/or for A-level certification may not be counted for this degree or level of library media certification. 

The AA-level of library media certification is an important step toward career advancement and is intended for school library media specialists and system level media and/or technology coordinators. Those seeking full admission to the Educational Specialist degree graduate program in library media must have the following:

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university and

  • Teacher certification at A-level in library media (or its equivalent)

Once admitted, the student has five calendar years to complete the degree.
