Library Media and Technology Profession
In the 21st Century, the library media and technology profession is an ever-changing, dynamic field. Library media specialists provide the leadership for a changing school library environment driven by learners and the learning process. They provide equitable physical and intellectual access to learning resources in a welcoming place where students can explore their world through multiple literacies -- digital, visual, textual, and technological.
Library media specialists are teachers whose domain is the whole school. They are leaders who help administrators plan for and implement multiple technologies into the curriculum. As collaborative partners with teachers, they plan, implement and assess multiple literacies to ensure learners have the skills to select, evaluate, and use information appropriately and effectively.
Through connections with the community of learners, both local and in distant parts of the world, library media specialists support sharing knowledge and model for other learners how one particpates ethically and productively in our democratic society. Most of all, library media specialists help create lifelong readers and learners.
