Library media and technology, a multidisciplinary professional program, is based on principles and practices of information science, instructional design, instructional technology, educational leadership, learning theory, and curriculum. School library media practitioners are teachers, information specialists, collaborative instructional partners, and program administrators.

The Library Media program at Auburn University is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the State of Alabama. Successful completion of the program leads to certification as a school library media specialist.

Auburn University's Library Media program has prepared outstanding library media specialists for over forty years, and it continues a tradition of excellence. Education for the library media Master's Degree or  Add-on certification or the Education Specialist's Degree  at Auburn provides a strong basis for becoming an informational and instructional technology leader. 

Entry to the library media profession may be obtained by one of the following:
