Student Affairs Emphasis
Auburn
University
has a rich history in student life and today has more than 300 registered student organizations. It is in that unique university setting that the Student Affairs concentration at Auburn University exists, emphasizing the development of skilled and knowledgeable professionals for positions of responsibility as practitioners in student affairs administration. The Higher Education program is designed to prepare individuals to work in areas such as admissions and enrollment management, student programs and activities, financial aid, housing and residence hall programs, and other positions of leadership in student services. Based on both ACPA Professional Preparation Standards and CAS Standards, our curriculum emphasizes mastering concepts of college student development, student life programming and assessment, as well as legal and administrative competencies for student services professionals.
Partnering with both Student Life and Academic Affairs units on campus ensures that the program combines rigorous graduate coursework and meaningful field-based learning, including an authentic internship experience. Program faculty members and campus professionals are committed to preparing competent practitioners for positions as student life educators. Our graduate students are encouraged to attend and present at national conferences, including NASPA and ACPA, often with higher education faculty members and including original research. Emphasis is placed on job placement and support for our graduates.
