Statement of Purpose
 

The Specialist in Education degree program builds upon the bachelor's and master's degree programs of students within Elementary Education. The purpose of the social constructivist-based program is to further strengthen professional educators' abilities and competencies for teaching in elementary in grades K - 6 and non-school settings.

Class AA certification is obtainable through this degree program.*
Graduates complete course work which will update their knowledge and skills in related elementary education language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies content, educational psychology, curriculum development, teaching, evaluation of teaching and learning, and foundations of education. Graduates are also required to complete a field project which addresses a practical problem in a K - 6 setting.

 

*Note that the Class AA teacher certification can be obtained independently from the Ed.S. degree program.
