| B.S. Foreign Language Education Statement of Purpose This program prepares foreign language teachers for secondary grades 6-12. Course work in a second language (Spanish, French, or German) with a supporting course in speech provides students with the second language skill necessary to teach required and elective courses in state-approved foreign language curricula. Course work in Professional Education provides the theory-based knowledge, the pedagogical knowledge and skills, and the monitored practice in public schools that prospective teachers need to create effective instruction for learning second languages and cultures. Accredited by the Alabama State Department of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, this program meets or exceeds the standards for teacher preparation currently being developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages.
