Alyson Whyte is an associate professor and the program coordinator of Secondary English Language Arts Education in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching in the College of Education.  She joined Auburn University in January 2001.  Before coming to Auburn, Dr. Whyte worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Foundations and Policy Studies at Florida State University.  She also has extensive experience teaching English in the public schools in Tucson, Arizona.  Currently, she serves as the director of the Sunbelt Writing Project in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in English Language Arts Education.  In addition to co-authoring four journalism textbooks with William L. Rivers, Stanford University, she has recently published a chapter on writing to learn in H. Scarborough (Ed.)   Writing across the curriculum in secondary classrooms:  Teaching from a diverse perspective (Merrill).  Her research interests are applications of organizational theory to the teaching of writing, cognition during the composing process (drawing on cognition in the arts), and teacher education.
