Marilyn E. Strutchens is a professor and program coordinator of Mathematics Education in the Department of Curriculum and Teaching in the College of Education. She is also Co-Director of Transforming East Alabama Mathematics (TEAM-Math). She joined Auburn University in August 2000.
Before coming to Auburn, she served as an assistant professor at the University of Kentucky from 1993 to 1995 and an assistant professor at the University of Maryland from 1995 to 2000. Her doctorate is in Mathematics Education from the University of Georgia.
Dr. Strutchens enjoys conducting research on topics related to increasing the mathematical understanding and achievement of African American students, increasing parental involvement in children's mathematics education, and enhancing teachers' pedagogical content knowledge in order to increase students' mathematical achievement. In addition to supervising secondary interns in mathematics education, she currently teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in mathematics education and a general middle school methods course.
