| Dr. John W. Saye Professor of Social Science Education
John W. Saye is a professor in the College of Education and the Department of Curriculum and Teaching where he is the program coordinator for Secondary Social Science Education. Dr. Saye has been at Auburn University since 1994. Prior to receiving his doctorate from the University of Georgia, he taught high school social studies for 13 years.Dr. Saye's teaching interests center on the development of thoughtful secondary social studies classrooms through a focus on persistent public problems and policy issues. Related to that central goal are interests in school-based methods courses and technology-assisted instruction for both novice teachers and high school students.
Dr. Saye's current research interests follow three lines: (1) factors affecting teachers' responses to innovation, (2) novice and veteran teachers' conceptions of social studies teaching, and (3) development of teaching strategies and curriculum materials that promote higher-order thinking and active student learning.
